"Muddy" Pepper Sold in China
"Muddy" Pepper Sold in China
For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com A merchant in southern China has ignited a public debate over food standards in the country. Last week, state-run media reported fake peppercorns were being sold in Guangdong province. The peppercorns appeared fragile, and would dissolve in water. Upon closer inspection, a shopper discovered the peppercorns were made of mud. When a reporter asked a merchant about this, the merchant said, "This isn't poisonous. No one would die from eating it. There's nothing to be afraid of." A flurry of online comments followed. Many satirically hailed the merchant as "ethical" because she was kind enough not to sell food that would kill people. Other, more sobering comments said such behavior indicates a new low for China's food standards. A spate of toxic food has been discovered in recent years, many—like recycled sewer oil and clenbuterol in pork are highly dangerous to consumers. Day 9 - Audi Q3 Trans China Tour 2011
Day 9 - Audi Q3 Trans China Tour 2011
A great distance has to be covered today, too -- destination Shenzhen at the gates of Hong Kong. The eighth stage leads along the coast toward the south, through beautiful landscape and into one of China's most important centers of commerce. For the drivers of the second group, however, this is the end of the road. They hand over the baton to the next wave of participants. Xiamen is the starting point for today's stage. The city of one million is situated on an island and can be reached via a bridge and a dam. A marathon is run over a distance of just under 42.2 kilometers and demands a considerable degree of physical fitness. Our marathon route is significantly longer. However, we have at our disposal a comfortable and fast car in the shape of the Audi Q3. Hugging the coastline, the 608-kilometer route takes us from Xiamen to Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, and right to the gates of Hong Kong. There are no exciting off-road stretches planned for today, with the preferred type of carriageway being multi-lane highway. The crossover from Fujian into Guangdong Province takes place around three hours into the drive. From a historical perspective, the coastal region of Guangdong has long been a center of trade and communication with the outside world. The ancient Romans found their way here as far back as the 2nd century, while Arab merchants established the first commercial relationships around the time of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 BC). Merchants Protest Over Eviction- Beijing
Merchants Protest Over Eviction- Beijing
With the economic downturn, some Beijing merchants had asked their landlords to lower their rent. Instead, the landlords evicted them--and now the merchants are protesting. Dozens of shop tenants protested outside a market in Beijing's Russian district, angry they were evicted from their shops after asking for lower rent to accommodate declining sales. Many in the crowd had been evicted from their shops the previous night. [Wen Guojie, shop tenant]: "Last night, after eight, they forcefully threw our goods outside. This is illegal and unfair, we want to petition. All of us are here to petition and protest." Between twenty and thirty people had been working at the shop, which has now been stripped of its products by the building management and padlocked. They are demanding the return of their goods and accusing the management of unfair trading practice. [Ms. Li, shop tenant]: "I am a legitimate merchant. I didn't break any rules. In this time of economic problems we should be able to make suggestions and they should answer them or not answer them." In recent months, the newly unemployed have been protesting, both violently and peacefully, across the country. 20 million jobs have been cut in southern Guangdong province alone.

The ship, believed to have sunk more than 400 years ago, is the first vessel ever discovered from China's late Ming Dynasty. Chinese archaeologists retrieved more than 2000 pieces of Ming Dynasty ceramics on Sunday from a sunken vessel in the South China Sea. The porcelain wares were recovered from the Nan'ao One, a Ming Dynasty merchant ship believed to have sunk off the coast of Shantou City in Guangdong Province more than 400 years ago. It was accidentally discovered near Nan'ao Island by a group of fishermen in 2007. The ship is the first vessel ever discovered from China's late Ming Dynasty, which ran from 1368 to 1664. The initial excavation of the ship began in 2009, and over 2700 relics have been recovered from the ship this year, according to Chinese state media. Most of the submerged relics are things like plates, tins and bowls. Researchers believe the ship was traveling to Southeast Asia when it sank in the Sandianjin waters. The salvage effort is expected to last until July. Of nearly three million sunken ships in oceans around the world, more than 2000 are believed to be in the South China Sea.

Hung Ga Gung Fu
Hung Ga Gung Fu
Hung Ga (Hung Kuen or Hung Ga Kuen) is a southern Chinese martial art associated with the Chinese folk hero Wong Fei Hung, who was a master of Hung Ga According to legend, Hung Gar was named after Hung Hei-Gun, who learned martial arts from Jee Sin, a Chan master at the Southern Shaolin Temple. Jee Sin (Gee Sum Sim See) was also the master of following 4 students, namely Choy Gau Lee, Mok Da Si, Lau Sam-Ngan and Li Yao San. These five students later became the famous founders of five of the southern shaolin styles (Hung Ga, Choy Gar, Mok Gar, Li Gar and Lau Gar). The temple where they trained had become a refuge for opponents of the Qing Dynasty, who used it as a base for their activities, and was soon destroyed by Qing forces. Hung, a tea merchant by trade, eventually left his home in Fujian for Guangdong, bringing the art with him. Even though Hung Ga is supposedly named after Hung Hei Gun, the predominant Wong Fei Hung lineage of Hung Ga claims descent not from him but from his classmate Luk Ah Choi who taught Wong Fei Hung's father Wong Kei-Ying and, by some accounts, Wong Taai who is variously said to be Wong Kei Ying's father or his uncle. Because the history of the Chinese martial arts was historically transmitted orally rather than by text, much of the early history of Hung Ga will probably never be either clarified or corroborated by written documentation. The hallmarks of the Wong Fei-Hung lineage of Hung Ga are deep low stances, notably its "sei ping ma". horse ...

In the Chinese province of Guangdong, what are described as gangs have setup mining facilities extracting rare earth minerals such as dysprosium. Dysprosium was selling for $6.50 per pound in 2003 but sells for $132 per pound today. These non-sanctioned miners use tons of sulfuric acid and other chemicals which poison the soil and water supply. The Chinese government is shutting down these illegal mines. Dysprosium is used in the nuclear control rods to absorb neutrons in nuclear plants. It is a hard metal that is also used in lasers. Its melting point is 1412 degrees Celsius and 2574 degrees Fahrenheit.

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com For a long time, on every last Friday of the month, Shanghainese petitioners would go to Beijing. On April 29, over 1500 petitioners from Shanghai gathered again in front of the State Petition Office, denouncing the government's unjust treatment of the victims of forced evictions. On Friday, April 29, there were more petitioners from Shanghai than usual. As always, they weren't received by the Petition Office officials. Petitioner Tan Lanying: I am at State Petition Office. We've over 1500 Shanghainese petitioners in Beijing. The officials didn't receive us! They said they would have meetings in the afternoon, whereas we came in the morning. The authorities took petitioners' houses away. So many people want their justice. Having wasted their efforts, angry petitioners took to the streets. Tan: We are singing Internationale when marching. We are marching towards the Tiananmen Square. Petitioners say that many hotels don't accept them. They think Shanghainese authorities pressured them. The police in Beijing arrest people in hotels in Beijing. Petitioners have no choice but to live on the streets. Petitioner Zhang Wen: Hotels listen to your accent. If seeing you are from Shanghai, they won't take you. The poor petitioners have to live on the streets. We sit for one night to wait for Friday to come. Then we go to petition together. Song Lyrics: Hundred stories in every inch Of the way your hips move in this light Juliette don't lace your window with sighs Morning's come baby & I'm gone Window's thrown but I'm still holding you tight You're still what's immense about the night Count the flowers in your bed Remember who planted each & every one with you There'll be more & you can count them too They say my name & your face turns red Lower your head & giggle right on cue If Daddy asks say it's deja vu CHORUS You don't know, what you're gonna do But you don't care 'cause you know I'm in love with you... Spread your hair over my right knee Your bare feet hanging out the car window I'll drive while you dry the paint on your toes You mess up every song you sing Little deuce couple a-runnin' away in the night I don't care what the radio sounds like Three hours till we reach the sea Your momma's dreams they'll drown without a fight You'll take your chances in starlight You write "the end" down in the sand No ellipses or to be continued This story, baby's it's brand new CHORUS No names playing at the seaside bar Chances are the crowd's full of no names too You ...
